It's fine to have a plan, but we can get in a rut, and miss the leading of the Spirit, especially after 'the routine' has proved successful for years. I am constantly amazed at the inventiveness of the way Christ leads sinners to Him, and how He uses the saints to get the message over.

Here's an example of the Lord breaking into one on my witnessing routines.

I often visit backpacker haunts in Asia to stick Gospel tracts and flyers in guest-houses. The Lord loves to use them on the constant stream of tourists, and we've had many memorable incidents.

Once, in Bangkok's famous Khao Sarn Road (featured in the Leonardo DiCapprio film, The Beach,) I was sticking Gospel posters on lamp-posts. Yeh, fly-posting for Jesus. (Don't worry, it's permitted there.)

It was way past midnight, the revellers had finished revelling, and my glue bottle was running dry. As I lifted it to the street-light to see how much was left, a hairy muscular arm reached out of the dark shadows, and clamped my wrist.

"Give me!" an intoxicated European chap demanded. He sounded Croatian, and his grip on my hand reminded me of a Burmese Python at dinnertime.

Looking into his spaced-out eyes, I replied,

"It's glue Sir, only glue!"

This news caused his pupils to dilate fully.

"Give me!" he shouted, and reached for his back-pocket.

To my relief, instead of pulling out a knife or gun, he waved his wallet in my face. The poor man wanted some glue to sniff, and was willing to pay for it!

Once I'd convinced him it was just water-gum, with no potent solvents, he let my wrist go free, and I had a wonderful chance to point him to Christ. What a sense of humour the Lord has.

Telling personal testimonies are an important part of witnessing. Show people how you were drowning before you knew Jesus, and then show them how His grace and mercy has changed your life forever. Tell people that God can reach down, and help them no matter where they are in life.

I was brought up in a Christian home, and while my Mom was a Spirit-filled Christian who was involved heavily in church ministry, I denounced Christianity at an early age, thinking it was just a religion. In my teenage years I fell into depression and alienation as I found no acceptance in the world. I wept every single night wanting to die, I questioned why I was still alive.

It was at this time that I started going to a youth group, because of a friend, and they eventually had a retreat, or what we call an "encounter". Our youth group was basically taken to a ranch where we stayed, and had a three-day period of prayer and ministering.

It was on the very first day there that I felt God's presence at the end of a session. For the first time in my life I felt His love so strongly that I burst into tears and realized that He was real, and willing to renew me. He showed me the truth of who He was, and how I had been a sinner all my life. It was there that I cried out to Jesus for the first time as I repented of my sins.

I was a sinner who denounced Christianity because I did not want religion, but then God showed me that He did not want me to be religious, all He wanted was to fellowship with me.

I can't think about where I would be without God right now because He changed my life. And I think it is so important to not only point people towards The Bible and Jesus, but also show them how true love, peace, and joy, can only be found in Jesus who will wash all your sins away.

Isn't that beautiful? A mother's steadfast faith, loving Christian friends who pointed him to Christ, and the Love that just never quits on any of us. His Mum's proud of him, but his Lord is boasting of him in Heaven. "That's My boy!"

A Muslim friend of mine had a dream about Jesus and I'd like to share it with you, if you don't mind. She said,

About the dream, it was like all these people that were going crazy, and like Jesus was there, and since I am a Muslim we aren't "supposed to" believe in Him. He was about to take people to Heaven, only the people that trusted Him, and you were telling me to believe so that I could go to Heaven... crazy stuff I know...

In her dream, I was telling her to believe so that she can get saved, and she's Muslim. That's spectacular!

Colin
Wonderful report Lisa, now get her to read the Gospel of John and ask Jesus to show her the Truth. Remind her that the Quran itself tells Muslims to read the Gospel (Injil) and to obey everything that Jesus said.

I have lately been witnessing on a forum. It has been tough. I have come across New Age critics, satanic followers, and people who believe that all religions are true. After a lot of explaining the people there are still intent on denying Christianity. Every attempt to show them the truth has been met by attacks on Christianity and criticisms. I have no idea what to do anymore since these people are bent on debating Christian theology and refusing to see the difference between religion and a relationship with God.

Colin
Frustrating isn't it! But recall what you were like when you were blind and deaf, and what finally made the difference.

Proclaim the message, plant the seed, believe the Lord will make it grow, and go to those willing to listen.

As a born again believer your daily walk should show the love of Christ in everything we do. Our children are imitators of what we say and do. If they see us read the Bible, and pray together, as a family, daily, they will see the love of God in action. This in turn will one day open their hearts to listen to the drawing of the Holy Spirit in their life.

We need to do more. I've been saved for 32 years. I grew up in an independent fundamental Baptist church. Our church grew by soul winning. It now seems we have faded to the background and churches now grow by having loud rock type music, live TV feeds, preachers who just practice in making you feel good. What has happened to soul-winning?
