Secret Sins?

Past sins and marriage

Q: I understand that past sins are forgiven but, when do you have to confess past sins to your spouse, if a question arises, without feeling like you have lied? Does the past even exist if God has forgiven us? Should some things be left unsaid if they could be hurtful?

A: In regards to your relationship with Father, past sins are forgiven and gone as soon as you confess them to Him. (1 Jn.1:9, Heb. 8:12, Jer. 31:31-34). God wipes them out forever, and lifts the guilt from your shoulders.

Of course, the result of your past sins may also affect those around you.

If your past sins were against (or affect) your spouse, you need to ask their forgiveness. They must then forgive you. Lk. 15:18-20, Mtt. 18:33-35, Jas. 5:16. They may not offer the perfect forgiveness Father does, but obey your conscience in all things, and leave the consequences to God.

If your past sins were not against your spouse, you do not need their forgiveness, but it's still best to tell them so that there are no secrets. For example, if you have a criminal record, then got saved in jail, have since become a new creature in Christ, but have not told your partner of your past, I think you should. It is best they hear directly from you rather than from gossips.

If your conscience is troubling you, the Lord wants you to do something about it, not ignore it. In His eyes, the two are one flesh in Him. No secrets. If you have lied, or misled them, that is sin. Your relationship must be established on truth and love in Christ, otherwise it is crippled.

If it's potentially hurtful, ask Father to prepare them, and give you tact in your disclosure, but tell the whole truth. For example, ask the partner if they would want to know everything about you, even if it hurt them? Perfect love drives out fear. 1 Jn. 4:18.

How to Interpret the Bible

Q: How can we be sure we are understanding the Bible correctly? Mark

Superb quality

A: That's easy, simply keep in mind these two witnesses; God doesn't contradict Himself, so the Scripture, the written Word of God, doesn't either.

Remember the distinct purposes of the two Covenants, the Old and New. So if your understanding conflicts with the rest of Scripture, it is wrong.

The other witness is the Holy Spirit in the born again believers heart. Jesus said He would guide you into all Truth. (Jn. 16:13, 1 Jn. 2:27, Is. 30:21).

The Tattooed lady

Q: Given that many Christians don't follow the laws of the Old Testament, such as not eating pig meat, do you think that Christians should not have tattoos? Diane

A: Christians are not under the Old, but the New Covenant, Diane. Study the huge difference between the two Testaments. Where OT teaching and principles are included in the New Covenant, Christians follow them. Tattooing and body-piercing are forbidden by both Covenants, so of course Christians should not tattoo themselves.

Satan's Ecumenical scam

Q: Surely anyone who believes in one true God who sent his only Son, who died for our sins, and lives their life being a good person will be granted access to Heaven? Mark

A: No certainly not Mark, this is typical unbiblical, demonically-inspired, woolly minded-ness of Catholics and the Ecumenical Movement.

Notice how your question shows that your faith and hope are in 'one true God' and in living your life being a 'good person'. Even Muslims and Jews believe that much, and perish in sin.

Even demons believe that, and tremble

If you truly believed in the 'one true God' you would reject such heretical nonsense and embrace the only way anyone can get to Heaven.

Through genuine heart faith in The LORD Jesus Christ, Almighty God in the Flesh, and His finished Sacrifice for you personally. You simply must be born again. Find out what that means.
