The Two Witnesses

Q: In 1 Jn. 5:7 KJV, I was told that the part about the Father, Word, and Holy Spirit was added when the KJV was put together, this is the reason it isn't in the modern translations, is this true? Steve

A: No. That's Satan's googly Steve. He bowled it at my feet soon after I was saved, and the Lord taught me how to knock it for six. The integrity of The written Word is vital, as you know, but that is not our only reliable witness, is it? He has given us one that no man can gainsay. The witness of the Holy Spirit in a born again believer's heart. Note especially how He points us to this witness repeatedly as verification, for example in 1 Jn. 2:20-27, 3:21, 24b, 4:13, 5:10. Remember, the letter kills, it is the Spirit who gives life. 2 Co. 3:6

This is a glorious position, a fountain of Wisdom, even when your head is in turmoil. Listen to the Lord whisper the Truth to your heart. You're born of God, so you already have the answer to your question, don't you? Not in your head, but in your spirit. What is it?

That's right, this 'great controversy' is no controversy at all for those who know their God. Through John the Apostle, the Holy Spirit put in the passage you refer to, (clearly confirming the Trinity, but there's plenty more Scriptural confirmation besides this verse). He preserved its presence in the written Word using the Waldenses and Vaudois up to the Reformation. They chose to be butchered by Catholics rather than compromise the Holy Bible.

There's plenty of evidence that it definitely is in the original Scripture, even William Tyndale's 1534 NT (upon which the KJV NT is based) includes it.

You will find books from both sides, about the Comma Johanneum, but which will you trust? For me it is simple, I've learned to trust the voice of the Holy Spirit in my heart.

Allow me to correct you; the passage is also in the NIV (though as a footnoted alternate text.) That is why I use Tyndale's Testament (and KJV) for doctrinal verification, and the NIV for communicability, in English. Read both daily, and listen to the Holy Spirit as you read. He'll keep you right.
