Is drinking sinful?

Q: Is drinking alcohol a sin, and was the wine that Jesus drank the same as the wine of today? Joy

A: No, but getting drunk is sin. Eph. 5:18. Some claim the wine of Christ's day was non-alcoholic, but I don't think that is correct. Practically, it would be very difficult to stop alcohol forming as the wine is prepared and stored. I don't think they were so fussy. God often rebuked the Jews in the OT for getting drunk on wine. If it was non-alcoholic that would not be possible, would it?

Scripturally, Jn. 2:10 indicates that the wine first used at the Jewish wedding was strong enough to impair the drinker's judgment. It contained alcohol. Personally, I've not drunk any form of alcohol since being saved, for the reasons explained here: Can Christians Drink Alcohol? Get drunk the Bible way.

England's Teenage King

Q: What did Edward the Sixth die from?

A: According to Foxe's Book of Martyrs, Edward VI died of a 'distemper' (meaning a cough and catarrhal fever) contracted by playing tennis in winter. This was almost certainly Tuberculosis. Foxe discounts the rumour that the much-loved fifteen year-old Monarch was poisoned by arsenic. Though it is clear Catholics hated him for his biblical stand for Jesus.

Slave girls?

Q: What does Leviticus 19:20 mean? Marie

A: The NIV translation makes its meaning perfectly plain. Why do you ask? It applied to Jewish men under Law and up to mischief with slave-girls; is that you?
