Body-mutilation in the Bible

Q: You say that Body-piercing is evil, which Scriptures support that? David

A: Are you really looking for truth David, or merely contending with it in order to justify your sin? Here's a sample of Scriptures confirming that body-piercing is evil and demonic. (There are many more.) The Holy Spirit witnesses this obvious truth in the hearts of all true believers.

• Self-mutilation and body piercing is a demonic pagan practice: 1 Ki. 18:28, Je. 16:6, 41:5.
• Body-piercing is practised by the wicked: Ps. 22:16, Zech. 12:10, Jn. 19:34,37, Rev. 1:7.
• The practise of piercing yourself is used metaphorically of those who abandon the faith to follow evil. 1 Tim. 6:10.
• A Christian's body is God's Temple. He commands us to honour Him with it; not vandalize, mutilate, or deface it. 1 Co. 6:19-20.

Be assured, those who ignore these warnings will certainly pierce themselves, with many griefs.

Here's three helpful hints to those who feel the urge to mutilate themselves:

Ask yourself why you want to do it. Then ask, does God think this will make me beautiful and more attractive, or does He show a better way of being beautiful? Finally, ask, is the LORD Jesus Christ leading me to mutilate myself, or is it somebody else?

Believers follow through

Q: What happens to a person if they are born again, and then do not get water baptism, do they lose their salvation since they didn't obey God? Melinda

A: No, they lose the blessing that comes from obedience. When anyone is really born again they don't baulk at the basic step of obedience of getting baptised in water.

Divorce

Q: Would divorcing an unbeliever be repenting the sin of marrying them in the first place?

A: Blimey! The excuses I've heard people try to make to justify divorce. No Sis, that would not be repenting, that would be adding to the sin. (1 Co. 7:13) two wrongs don't make a right. You made your bed, now lie in it. And repent of your unredemptive attitude, shine for Jesus, love and lead that sinner-man to Christ (1 Co. 7:16). It's what you were saved for.

Assurance

A: That's easy: 1) You've done what God says you must do to be saved, and 2) you have the Bible evidence He promised. This series of articles on Assurance of Salvation will help you to understand.

Will you go?

Q: Two Thessalonians 1:8, says that God will, ... punish those who do not know God and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus. Does this mean those never hearing the Gospel will be punished? John

A: It means everyone who is not born of God will perish in Hell, punished for their sins. You will get asked whilst evangelising, But what about those who have never heard of Jesus and the Gospel?

Answer by reminding people that God's judgment is perfectly just. (Rev. 15:3, 16:5-7) Then show them Ro. 1:18-32, especially verses 19 and 20. All men are without excuse before God.

Then explain that when any sinner begins to seek God's forgiveness He will get the Gospel to them, and reveal Christ, the only Saviour. If He can't find a Christian willing to go to them, He will speak to them directly. It has happened many times in Muslim nations. Take Gulshan Esther for example.

But He has already sent you and me, I'm gone, will you go? (Mtt. 28:19-20)
