God's anointed Helpers

Q: What is the 'ministry of helps?

A: The term is based on the Spiritual Gifts chapter, 1 Co. 12:5, and verses 27-28. Notice, 'those able to help others' v. 28 NIV. We all try to help of course, but some people have a special Gift from God to be a help in His Body. It is an anointing upon them; they just love to help in any way they can, and when they do, everyone gets blessed.

You'll notice it in many ways, for example; greeters welcoming people to services, cleaners, chair-stackers, Sunday-school children 'herders', and my favourites, the anointed smilers! I've seen people with smiles from God so radiant they almost knock you off your feet, and get you focussed on Christ. What a help it is for a preacher to see a smiling face beaming at him or her. Notice, there is no ministry of correction and grumbling listed in the Gifts.

Why Christian become ill

Q: Why do Christians get sick?

A: Ignorance of the Gospel, unbelief, or rebellion. Understand why You need never be ill.

Pagan holidays

Q: Are Christmas and Easter, Pagan Holidays? David

A: Originally yes. In the Dark Ages, Catholics were happy to give Pagan festivals 'Christian like' names, and merely adapt their idolatry. Awful eh? Easter is the more Biblical; stemming from the Jewish Feast of Unleavened Bread, and The Passover. You'll find more on this here: Is Easter Blasphemous?

Are the Amish Christian?

Q: Who are the Amish, and do they practice Christianity? Rich D

A: They stem from German Anabaptists, who fled Catholic persecution in Europe. Anabaptists rightly rejected infant baptism, but many also held heretical doctrines, as John Foxe points out.

The Amish are shackled in bondage to legalism, and have drifted far from genuine Christianity. That is why they were powerless to stop a demonized man from butchering their children in 2006. A single faith-filled command in the Name above all names would have stopped that.

However, they can get saved. I recall reading about one old Amish bloke who'd been chewing the nails of legalism all his life. Close to death, he read Ken Hagin's wonderful little booklet The New Birth (given to him by his ex-Amish son) got saved, then promptly popped off! Another wasted life.

Forgiveness for murderers

Q: Does God forgive murderers?

A: Of course, as long as they meet the same conditions of repentance and faith in Christ as any other sinner. He even used repentant murderers to write much of the Bible. Do you know their names? What a humbling revelation it is to discover that you and I hammered the nails into His arms and feet, as Charles Spurgeon discovered.

False Christian

Q: Is it wrong to use the services of a non-Christian attorney if I find he has shown more honesty and integrity than a 'Christian' one? Donna

A: Not wrong, but if I was you, I'd ask the Lord to lead me to a genuine Christian legal advisor rather than the phoney you've encountered. You could also ask in your fellowship for a recommendation.

The real you

Q: What is the difference between a person's spirit, soul, and body?

A: That is answered in an E-pistle reply in this newsletter: What happens when we die?

Interfaith marriage

Q: Can people of different faiths have a happy marriage?

A: At best, only in the severely limited sense of worldly happiness. An unmarried Christian will never marry an unbeliever, that would be plain rebellion against the Word of God. 2 Co. 6:14. God cannot bless rebellion. If two unbelievers are married, and one gets saved, that is an entirely different proposition. Sex and Marriage faq.

Are Christians cannibals?

Q: Aren't Christians a bit sick to be drinking blood and eating flesh like cannibals?

A: Anybody who goes street-witnessing has this little chestnut tossed at them by sinners. It refers to the Lord's Supper. 1 Co. 11:17-34.

Christians don't literally drink Christ's Blood, or literally eat His Flesh. The emblems are symbols of His Blood and Body broken for our redemption from sin and sickness. This truth is what the Reformation Martyrs died to preserve, in the face of Catholic heresy.

Church Fossils

Q: What can you do to avoid 'churchiness' in a fellowship?

A: Marvellous question! Fellowship with Spirit-filled believers is an essential blessing, but there's an even greater blessing in being busy proclaiming, and sharing, the love of Christ out where sinners are. Make that your life-priority, and you'll avoid the snare of 'churchianity'.

When hate is good

Q: I would like to get a deeper understanding of what Jesus meant when He said that anyone who wants to follow Him must hate their mother, father, sister, and brother. Beybunui

A: Wow! I think this is the best question we've ever had here. There's rich blessing in the answer. It is too good for a brief reply, so please subscribe to our Salvation Newsletter, and ask it as an E-pistle question. Grab our free newsletter.

Overcoming addictions

Q: I was born-again over a year ago, yet I still struggle with harmful addictions. Will I still go to Heaven when I die? Jen

A: If you really are born again, yes. But don't try to tell me that you can have the Creator of the Universe reigning in your heart, be filled with the same Almighty Power that raised Him from Hell, and still be bound by addictions. That's not Gospel. Those the Son of God sets free are really free. Jn. 8:36. When you are born of God, and filled with His Spirit, you will be rid of all addictions Jen. Col. 1:13.
