Q: Sometimes when I am praying alone in my home, sounds come from my mouth that I do not recognize. I belong to a church full of Spirit-filled people, and talking in tongues is common to hear at church, but I've never had that gift that I know of. It's just when I pray, and these sounds come, I don't know what it is, nor do I understand what I am saying. George
A: Yes George, it could well be tongues, that's often how it begins spontaneously in worship and prayer.
When you pray in the Spirit you don't normally understand what you're praying, the mind is unfruitful. (1 Co. 14:14, Ro. 8:26-27) Only when you ask the Lord for the interpretation is your mind edified.
In the next free worship session at your fellowship, get in the Spirit, and ask one of the elders to listen to it, and verify it is the real thing.
Q: I don't understand about the Baptism in the Holy Spirit. I have been baptized in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. I am trying to get some clarity on being filled with the Holy Spirit, and speaking in tongues. Shirley
A: They are not the same Shirley. Please read the Baptism articles listed on the left, where it is all explained clearly.
You have been baptised in water by men, in the Name of the Father, Son and Holy Spirit; but you have yet to be baptised in the Holy Spirit, by Christ (Ac.1:8).
Water baptism symbolised your new birth, the Baptism in the Holy Spirit is the power baptism for service. Every believer needs it to be an effective Christian.
Q: Can Catholics speak in tongues?
A: No, not genuine tongues, because real tongues are only given to Spirit-filled Christians. Catholics are a cult, not Christian. Catholics, like many cults, do masquerade demonic counterfeit tongues, as this FGBMF leader discovered.
