Subscriber's Question and Answer
A believer asks, When I pray I don't hear any reply, I want to know how to listen to God's voice.
Answer: God can speak audibly to lead believers, but this is unusual, His normal mode of communication is far more intimate: He speaks to your spirit: your heart.
Those who are led by the Spirit of God are Sons of God. Ro. 8:14
In other words; the sons and daughters of God are led by the Spirit of God, and His Spirit is in a believer's heart. That is where your spiritual ears reside, not on your head.
Most believers who say they can't hear God are simply not listening to Him.
If they listened with their spiritual ears, and were honest, they would admit that they do know what He's saying to them, the truth is they just don't want to do what He's telling them to.
Others have sin in their lives, and are unwilling to repent, so there's a serious impediment to their fellowship with God, that must be washed in the Blood.
You have no secrets from God, and if there's something wrong that He's telling you to put right, obey Him, get back in fellowship with Him. Harden your heart, and you'll simply wither on the vine.
So first make sure you are right with God, and willing to obey Him in everything, otherwise don't call Him your Lord. Repent and confess any sin He has made you aware of. You don't have to dig in your heart for it; you'll know when He's got His finger on something hindering you.
Be filled afresh by His Spirit (with the Bible evidence of speaking in tongues), and get into His Presence in your prayer closet. Come with no other merit than that Jesus' Blood was shed for the remission of your sins, and talk to Almighty God, confident that you are being heard because of your righteousness in Christ. Expect and believe He's answered you, and listen to Him.
This is a most remarkable and precious privilege.
When the conditions are met, He will reply, and you will know what He's saying to you. Listen to your heart; that is where you receive the witness of the Spirit. It is not a feeling: it is a knowing, and can often seem like a literal voice inside you.
To be sure that you are not deceiving yourself, or being led astray by demons, always check what you hear against God's Word. The Holy Spirit will never, ever, contradict the written Word.
Remember you are not under the Old Covenant, but the new. So if you are being told to take an eye for an eye, though that is Scriptural, it cannot be God, because His New Covenant is in operation now. That would be a demon twisting Scripture to deceive you into the sin of rebellion. If you are being told that it is acceptable to kill your enemies, you know that you're hearing an antiChristian spirit. Jesus told us to love our enemies, and set the example of laying down His sinless life for them.
Do not 'put out fleeces', like Gideon did. That is a sure way to get 'fleeced by Satan'. Christians have the Spirit of the God of the New Covenant inside their hearts to lead them.
Finally, give yourself time, you may not recognize the reply immediately, but be assured that you have been answered, and God will make it plain to you.
Then trust and obey.

Power Evangelism Tip
Halloween: Dare to be Different
Many fellowships arrange alternative events during Halloween to help Christians avoid the greasy demonic activities that occur on the Devil's Night. That's an especially good idea to wean young Christians from the world, but mature believers should have a much more valiant spirit, after the heart of David and Jonathan.
As a youth, David took on Satan's champion and cut off his head with his own sword. By faith, Jonathan scaled a cliff to vanquish a Philistine outpost, whilst swordless Israel huddled in fear by their campfires. The bold attack of the King's son struck panic into their enemy's hearts, and the Lord gave Israel victory over the whole Philistine army.
Are you the King's son or daughter? Then take His New Covenant sword: His Word, be bold and attack! Go on the offensive, accept those invitations to Halloween fancy dress parties, but don't go as witches and wizards, or Harry Potter look-alikes, dress up as David with a sling full of Halloween Gospel tracts, or mighty Deborah, so courageous she was a rebuke to the Hebrew men, with her dauntless faith in God, and a song of victory on her lips.
Go in the power and Name of Christ, and dare to be different. Do everything they do, except sin, so that by all possible means you save souls. Give out the Word of Life, and put the devils to shame. Tell everyone what God has done for you, don't wait for them to ask, proclaim it from the rooftops. When snakes hiss, bind and trample on them in Jesus' Name.
If you women don't have the muscles of Deborah, dress up like Queen Esther, who risked her beautiful neck by interceding for her people, and saved them. Or walk like that blessed woman Jael, who carried a tent peg and mallet, and tell the party-people why. (See Ju. Ch.4 and 5)
'Hi Trudy, Happy Halloween! Why have you brought a hammer and spike?' 'I've come to nail the Devil's head to the floor in Jesus' Name.' 'Koool! Tell us more.'
Kit the kids out in the same way; little Davids with slings and tracts, and lots of Queen Esthers, pleasing the King, and rescuing souls from death and Hell. Not trick or treating, but evangelizing. Jesus used a young Spirit-filled lad to lead me to Christ.
Be bold, be courageous, the LORD is with you!
