Jan scorned the words of those who told her;
'Jesus will heal you, Jesus can heal MS', and she tried every therapy and pill available. But the insidious paralysis was relentless. Finally, wheelchair-bound, and desperate, she humbled herself and turned to Christ.
Jesus went... preaching the good news of the kingdom, and healing every disease and sickness among the people. Those suffering severe pain, the demon possessed, those having seizures, the paralysed, and he healed them. Holy Bible Mtt. 4:23-24 NIV
Jesus cures the 'incurable', He did in Bible days, and He does today when they turn wholeheartedly to Him. That is Gospel fact, because Jesus Christ is the same, yesterday, today and forever. Here's an account of a dear Sister in Christ I met called Jan, who discovered this truth from personal experience.
It began as tingling and numbness in her feet, so gradual she hardly noticed. But when Jan began stumbling and dragging her toes she consulted her Doctor. He sent her for tests, and a CNS Specialist in London confirmed the diagnosis.
"You have Multiple Sclerosis Mrs. Cowan."
"What's that?"
"A disease of the nervous system that affects the myelin sheath around nerve fibres. It stops them from transmitting impulses, causing sensory and motor paralysis. I'm afraid it is incurable. We have no effective treatment or cure."
Have you heard words like that from your doctor? If so I have Good News for you. There is no disease that the Lord Jesus Christ cannot cure instantly. Read on and be encouraged to do what this lady eventually did, put her whole trust in the Word of God, and received a miracle from Christ.
Despite various medicaments and treatments, her symptoms gradually worsened. Jan slowly lost the use of her legs, her vision was impaired, and she had difficulty controlling her bladder. She remained at work as long as possible, but eventually had to give it up. Her husband Doug, and adult daughter nursed her at home.
Like most people in the UK Jan and Doug were 'nominal Christians'. Which means, Christian in name but not in fact. Your parents tell you, that because you were 'christened' as a baby, you are a Christian. So you call yourself a Christian, 'go to church' occasionally, live a life of seamless sin, die in sin, and are thrown into Hell at the Judgment. It's one of Satan's favourite scams. He uses it to deceive millions.
'Christening' of babies (or anyone) is not in the Bible. Baptism of born again believers is. Christians do not 'go to church'; they are the Church according to God's Word. Some real Christians had pity on Jan, and called to share the Gospel.
Jesus said, You must be born again! Jn. 3:7
'He is Lord, He's God, He died to give you His life, His health, His righteousness. Trust in HIM, not in your Church, tradition or doctrine. He wants to heal you, receive Him as Saviour, and follow Him.'
Jan got angry, and sent them away.
"Bible-Bashers, they make me sick!" she moaned.
Meanwhile, Jan tried every new therapy she could. She'd have good days, and bad days, but the trend was inexorable deterioration.
Finally, even a walking-frame was too much to handle, and she became wheelchair-bound. But those Christians had planted Seed, and God made it grow. He always does. Don't quit on folks who reject you and Jesus' message. The Truth outlives all lies. Forgive them, and pray for them.
Jan began to read the Gospels for herself.
Jesus asked a man paralysed 38 years a strange question...
Do you want to get well? Jn. 5:6
Some people don't; they revel in sickness, the attention and sympathy it evokes. Jesus told him to do the impossible. When he began to obey Christ, he was instantly healed.
Jan particularly noted the example of a woman who had a serious discharge for 12 years. She'd spent all she had, and seen many physicians, but only grew worse. (Mk. 5:34) Is that like you? Have you spent a fortune on medical bills? This woman said to herself of Christ,
If I just touch his clothes, I will be healed.
She did, and she was. Jesus was thrilled by her bold faith, pin-pointing what healed her.
Daughter, your faith (in Him) has healed you. Mk. 5:34
Who's faith healed her? Christ said it was her faith. Have you got faith for healing like she had? Where did she get it? She probably hadn't been to Bible School or seminary and got a degree in Theology. (Good job. They would have told her lies like 'The age of miracles has passed, you should bear your sickness graciously. God is teaching you something'.) She simply heard Christ was in town, that He healed all who came to HIm, and she believed in Him with all her heart, bless her. Can you do that dear one?
Jan finally humbled herself, and called the Christians to find out more about Jesus. Under the gentle touch of the Holy Spirit, she realized she was still in her sins, and needed to be saved. Despite Doug's loud objections, she received Christ, and was baptised in water in obedience to Christ's command. (Mtt. 28:19)
The local Baptist Church made special arrangements for her wheelchair, during the baptism. If you are willing to follow Christ in obedience, He will make a way for you when there seems to be no way. Many is the time people on their death-beds have been carried to crusades on stretchers, and Christ has healed them in an instant. But you don't have to wait that long, He'll fix you today if you'll only believe.
The joy of the Lord filled Jan, and she began to grow rapidly in Christ. However, despite many sincere prayers for healing, nothing seemed to improve physically. Are you sick or infirm? Are you tired of asking and praying for healing? Read on, and you will learn a powerful lesson about real Bible faith.
A few months after Jan received Jesus, an Evangelist came to a nearby agricultural show, and set up a tent. Amidst the prize pigs, beautiful heifers, and pristine lambs, was a Heaven sent banner that proclaimed;
Miracle Crusade
Some sneered, others were curious, Heaven rejoiced. Jan persuaded Doug to take her along, and they sat at the back listening to the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Doug was agitated, and very restless. Have you noticed how Good News does that to unrepentant sinners? Some folks got saved. Then the lady Evangelist (Yes, another gutsy Christian woman. Praise God.) asked those who wanted Jesus to heal them, to come forward for prayer. Jan was incapacitated by MS, she couldn't even hold her head up. Her chin was slumped on her chest in her wheelchair throughout the preaching. So she asked Doug to wheel her forward, but he refused. He didn't want anything to do with it.
"All this clapping, and fanaticism." he grumbled.
Jan remembered the man by the Pool of Bethesda, complaining to Jesus that no-one would help him into the water. She recalled that woman with the issue of blood, who overcame all her religious fears and cultural objections, reaching out to touch Jesus in bold faith. Jan could have listened to Doug, looked at her feeble strength, and hopelessness, and stayed put. She didn't. She told me later,
"Colin, I went to be healed by Christ, and I was determined to be healed, and nothing was going to stop me."
That was her faith speaking, a terrific testimony, but what she did was even better. Releasing the brake, she manoeuvred her wheelchair awkwardly, and propelled herself slowly up to the front, and got in line. Doug stayed behind fuming. Angels did cartwheels. From that moment her miracle was guaranteed. Because saving faith has corresponding action. (See James Ch. 2) Jan put her faith into action. She could sit forever at the back (by the pool), proclaiming,
By his wounds I have been healed. 1 Pe. 2:24
But still never receive it.
Faith without deeds is dead. Jas. 2:26
Jan believed enough to put her faith into action. What did she get? Exactly what she believed. She was instantly and totally healed when the Evangelist laid hands on her in Jesus' Name, and prayed for her. (Jan showed me a video of the event at her home, years later.) She walked from her chair, and went back to work in an Estate (Realty) Office.
Witnessing the miracle, Doug immediately gave his life to Christ, as did their adult daughter. They had to, they'd seen the indisputable proof that Jesus is alive.
Many disease sufferers are waiting for medical breakthroughs. The disease breakthrough came when Christ walked out of His Tomb. He has conquered death, sin, and ALL sickness, for everyone who believes.
"Remission." the cynics scoff, "Often happens with MS."
Meaning merely a temporary lessening of symptoms, not a cure.
"Time will tell."
It has told. Jan's MS did not go into remission, she was totally cured. She attended her regular check up with the CNS Specialist in London. He was aghast to see the fit healthy woman walk into his Office smiling.
After a thorough examination, he reported that there was No trace of MS in her. Nothing to even show she had ever had MS. Except of course the earlier positive clinical tests, his previously confirmed diagnosis, and years of ineffective treatment.
I, met Jan years later in 1989 whilst helping with a Gospel Crusade in Southern England. After chatting, she was late for an appointment, and we had to dash to her office.
Although a fit farm Vet in my 30's, (Jan was in her 50's). She ran so fast, I could hardly keep up with her. Jan is perfectly well today through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.
He will do the same for anybody who takes Him at His Word. Whatever your problem, Jesus will fix it. Just Believe! And act on your faith in Him.
