Today (2006) six out of ten Americans believe their illegal 2003 invasion of Iraq was a serious mistake.
This begs the obvious question, how can the remaining four be so stupid?
It was worse than a catastrophic 'mistake'. According to the standard used by US judges at the 1946 Nuremberg Trials; instituting an unprovoked attack on a sovereign nation constitutes the supreme war crime.
British, American, and Australian leaders deliberately lied to create a false pretext for a brutal assault on a defenceless nation, with massive loss of innocent civilian life.
This followed the longest aerial bombing campaign ever inflicted on any country. Simultaneously, sanctions were imposed, so barbaric that UN officials estimate they took 1 million lives in twelve years, including half a million children.
Both Dennis Halliday, and his successor running the 'oil for food programme' resigned in disgust at what the sanctions were doing. Halliday calls it genocide.
Recent figures show that child mortality has risen by 30% in Iraq since the March 2003 invasion. Think carefully about that.
The world's most respected medical journal, 'The Lancet' published results of a peer-reviewed survey indicating that 100,000 civilians had been killed as a result of the US/UK invasion. 84% of deaths were due, not to insurgent action, but coalition violence.
Baghdad mortuary alone receives over 1,000 corpses a month, mostly widows, and children, and is forbidden from examining those delivered by US troops.
No wonder, despite official attempts to cover up further war-crimes, troops stricken by their consciences are telling of their routine atrocities.
The establishment media attempt to spin these as regrettable aberrations by battle-stressed soldiers. The truth is that such uncaring brutality is the norm, not the exception. Just as it was in Vietnam.
Listen to Jody Casey, an Iraq veteran, describe his attitude to any Iraqi civilians found in the vicinity of an exploded bomb:
"I have seen innocent people being killed. IEDs [home made bombs] go off, and you just zap any farmer that is close to you. You're driving down the road at three in the morning. There's a guy on the side of the road, you shoot him... you throw a shovel off."
He described how officers instructed them to carry shovels and enemy weapons to plant next to their civilian victims so they could claim they'd only killed 'insurgents'.
Jimmy Massey, a US Marine, admitted they regularly 'light-up' civilians with machine-gunfire, that his squad laughed while their target, a wounded civilian, his foot dangling by sinews, hopped out of range. Jimmy chose to leave the Marines, because he was disgusted by what he had done. He put the blame on President Bush for lying about the reason for the invasion.
Jimmy's crimes are the rule, far from exceptional.
"I killed innocent people for our government. For what? What did I do? Where is the good coming out of it? I feel like I've had a hand in some sort of evil lie at the hands of our government. I just feel embarrassed, ashamed about it. I honestly feel that what we're doing is wrong over here. We're committing genocide".
Massey has innocent blood on his hands, but had the courage to heed his conscience and stop.
Plenty of other US servicemen are continuing the war crimes. There is strong evidence that US soldiers tied up and then executed eleven civilians, including little children - in Ishaqi in March 2006.
Officers in the Iraqi forces say that US troops executed a mentally handicapped man in Samara last month, along with two women.
So common-place are these US atrocities that even the puppet Iraqi Prime Minister called them a "regular occurrence... They crush them with their vehicles and kill them just on suspicion."
Following exposure of an official cover-up of the November 2005 massacre in Haditha, the true story is emerging. 24 civilians were killed in cold blood by three US Marines. Women and children were shot in their night-clothes, dying mothers shielded their children from the bullets.
One Iraqi girl survived to tell what she saw,
"I watched them shoot my Grandfather, first in the chest and then in the head. Then they killed my Granny."
Leaders and the media attempt to spin such war crimes as aberrations, but it is simply State terrorism in action throughout Iraqi. Paranoid, frightened, and hate-filled troops kill civilians claiming they are 'harbouring insurgents'.
Heaping blasphemy upon murder, they claim to be doing this as 'Christians'. Such deception is plain to genuine Christians, who've long witnessed the perversion of Bible truths by the Uncle Sam cult, the relentless indoctrination, and rampant idolatry.
So the first thing you have to get across to a Muslim, is that 'America is not a Christian country'. Show them the Bible teachings of Christ, to forgive and love enemies, and contrast this with the brief American history of unrelenting butchery, bombing, and torturing of perceived enemies.
Adult Arabs and Muslims begin to understand, but innocent children, unused to cynicism and hypocrisy are less easy to convince.
"How can Christians starve, bomb, torture and murder us when Jesus taught them to lay down their lives for their enemies? Isn't that what He Himself did?"
I don't know about you, but when I see pictures of these beautiful Iraqi kids, I see myself. I see them as souls I want lead to Christ. To show them how good, kind, and loving He is to His enemies, so that they will become my brothers and sisters in Him.
In faith God tells us to call those things that are not, as though they were. Ro. 4:17b
So I see them as my kids. Will you too, remember our children's blood? And do all you can to stop this wickedness masquerading as Christianity?
